I stumbled upon a quote recently that really is the guiding principle for how I approach family photo sessions. Here it is:
“You will never have this day with your children again. Tomorrow they will be a little bigger than they are today. This day is a gift. Breathe and notice. Smell and touch them; study their faces and little feet and pay attention. Relish the charms of the present. Enjoy today mama. It will be over before you know it.” – Jen Hatmaker
I go in with the goal of capturing this exact season of a families life. What does life look like for you all right now? And there are lots of words that I’d use to describe a family – fun, chaotic, messy, love, wild, joyous – but you know what word I didn’t use? Perfect.
Your family, my family, no family is perfect. So that is not at ALL what I am interested in capturing. I am interested in capturing the real. If one of your kiddos is just not into smiling, then I want to capture that phase he/she is in! Another kid is in a phase and only wants to cling onto mama? You’re going to want to remember that too, I bet. You get my point, right?
This blended family of 5 is soon to be a family of 6! And I could tell from the second I met them that this family was full of so so so much love. SO much love. We spent a few minutes chatting so I could get a feel of their vibe and then we hit the ground running (literally!) and started capturing all that love for them. It was so much fun! And, at the end of the day – it was all so very real.
