I don’t shoot in Hilo very often, but just had to make the trip over for this fun couple! We scheduled a morning shoot, and like usual it was raining in Hilo, but we didn’t mind one bit! I love how lush and green everything is over on that side of the Island! This is a completely different vibe than my normal sunny Waikoloa skies and that is exactly why I love it so much!
Something I’m always trying to remember as a photographer is to listen, not tell. I’m always asking myself during a session “how can I tell this truth?”. Nervous laughter, the touch of a hand, a gentle forehead kiss, the view of the ocean and the palm trees – it’s different for everyone but it all matters.
After years of focusing on what I wanted to create and what would look good on the ‘gram, I’ve completely changed my approach. Why? Because none of this is for Instagram. All of this is meant to serve as a tangible memory of a joyous moment in your actual (read: offline) life. When you see your images I hope you can close your eyes and be transported right back to that moment.
I’m so excited to keep creating this way, meaningfully and focused on authenticity, and I’m thankful if any of my work speaks even to one of you.
