Big Island Family Photos on the Lava Rocks of South Kohala

Some sessions feel like pure magic from start to finish, and this one in South Kohala was exactly that. The Big Island is famous for its black lava rock shoreline, golden light, and calm energy—and this evening gave us all three in full. We met just before sunset, when the light was warm and golden, and the ocean shimmered against the rugged lava formations.

The family wore soft shades of orange, blue, and green that looked incredible against the dark rock and turquoise sea. Everywhere we turned, there was something to explore: little tide pools, tiny crabs scurrying between the rocks, and even a few sleeping sea turtles tucked into the shoreline. It was one of those Big Island sunsets that felt completely unreal, glowing pink and gold long after the sun dipped below the horizon.
