These two were absolutely GLOWING for their Maternity session at one of my favorite beaches in Kona! I’ll confess, I love capturing babymoons. The problem is, I am always overshooting babymoon photo sessions! You really can’t blame me for always overshooting though. Once I get you in that golden light, beautifully holding your bump and savoring the moment, I just click click click because I get so dang excited. Honestly, the title of Hawaii Babymoon Photographers is literally perfect for me!
Since having a baby myself and doing my own maternity session (shot by my awesome husband because we couldn’t get a photographer #thankscovid) I’ve gone into maternity sessions with a whole new mindset.
Now? I spend a few meaningful minutes really asking the mom-to-be how she’s feeling. Like, how are you REALLY feeling? No one told me that it was okay to not love every single second of my pregnancy. In fact, on the hard days and the days I wished to be done being pregnant, I felt like a failure and a bad mom. So when I see a pregnant mom who is tired and feeling down, I’m focused on making sure you know you’re beautiful and freaking amazing and doing an incredible thing. Because you are. You really are.
First I’ll say again – as someone who nearly didn’t have a chance to have her pregnancy captured, I was in tears thinking I’d missed out on capturing myself pregnant by a professional. Again – Covid ruined a lot of plans for us. Thankfully we were able to rally and get it done by having my husband hold the camera after I meticulously set up each shot for him. But what I wouldn’t have given to have a professional Hawaii babymoon photographer be there for us.
So maybe you’re thinking you don’t need to or want to capture this pregnancy? First – I acknowledge that your feelings are SUPER valid. But I’d challenge you to figure out why you want to skip it. Is it money? (Budgets are real and we offer year-round mini sessions. and payment plans). Is it because you don’t love how you look pregnant? If so, know that flattering bodies are at the front of my mind during every session. Because a gorgeous picture to me is garbage to you if you don’t like how you look.
The real reason your babymoon is worth documenting? Because you are doing an amazing thing. Your body, though it may feel tired and broken at times, is busy creating life and that is worth celebrating and documenting.
