We love to photograph high school seniors. When we do, we go ALL OUT and make it the most magical photoshoot of their lives! After all, what could be more magical than strolling along a white sand beach, enjoying a vibrant Hawaiian sunset as you capture this exciting time in your young adult life? It’s pretty dang hard to beat an experience like that, and I had an absolute blast capturing Zoe’s Big Island senior portraits in Kohala. Hawaiian goddess, professional model, high school senior looking to celebrate her hard work and accomplishments. . . I’m still not sure what this beauty was, but she killed it! 😉

Evenings like these are what you picture when you think of a photoshoot on a beach in Hawaii—warm temperatures, blue skies sprinkled with fluffy white clouds, dark black lava rocks against the white sandy shores, and a colorful sky + warm golden hour glow to end the night.
Zoe seriously got the most picture-perfect evening on the Kohala Coast, looking like a dream in her gorgeous olive green skirt, cozy white cami, and whimsical flower crown as she walked along the ocean shores! We can never predict the weather here in this tropical climate, but you best be sure we try our hardest to treat our clients to perfect evenings like this under the Hawaiian sun. I LOVED Zoe’s choice in outfits, opting for a super laid-back, free-spirited, beachy look to start, followed by an equally relaxed, boho look with flowy pants, a simple red-orange tank, and bare feet. She looked like she belonged right there on the beach and was living her best dang life.
If you’d like to add a little extra touch of magic to your session, we highly recommend adding on florals just like Zoe did! You can go with your own favorite floral vendor on the island, or book via our preferred vendors and we’ll pass along your floral preferences. Your photographer will even do the work of picking up your florals and bringing them to your session—no extra task on the to-do list for you!

Imagining what your own senior photos could look like on the Big Island? Let’s answer a few questions you might be wondering about so you can get to planning your dream session.
When should I book my Big Island senior portraits?
First, it’s crucial that you know your school’s senior photo deadline! This will determine when you’ll need your photos completed by. You’ll need to account for at least 2 additional weeks AFTER your session, to allow our team time to edit and deliver your gallery—so the earlier you can book, the better it is for everyone. No rushing for a last-minute deadline around here!
Ideally, you’d be booking your session early in the school year of your senior year. But if you want to make it even easier for yourself + get on top of it, book your senior session the summer before you head into your senior year! This way, you get to fully enjoy your senior year and not be worrying about due dates—you’ll be wayyy ahead of the game. You should be spending this time cheering on your school at sports games, hanging out with your besties before you head off to college, and celebrating all of your effort, not stressing over deadlines. Plus, you’ll get to start sharing your senior photos with your family, friends, and on social media much sooner!
How long will my Big Island senior session be?
Great q! We have small packages that are best for seniors who just want a quick 25-minute session, one outfit, and a small handful of photos, and then we have options that go all the way up to larger 1.5 hour sessions that include more photos + multiple outfit changes. It’s totally up to you and how much variety you’d like to have in your gallery; we’re partial to longer sessions, because that obviously means we get to spend more time getting to know you and capturing different sides of you, but we’ll recommend the option that we think is best based on your preferences, vision, budget, and timeline.
What should I wear for my Big Island senior portraits?
Oooh we LOVE helping our seniors figure out what to wear for their session! First off, the number of outfits you can wear depends on the length of the package you’ll book. So if you really want to be able to rock multiple different looks, be sure to book a longer session time! No matter which package you book, we’ll be by your side to provide outfit reccs, tips, advice. . . whatever you need in order to feel like your BEST self in front of the camera. This blog post is technically an outfit guide for family sessions, but most of it applies to senior sessions too—especially the parts about opting for neutral colors and going barefoot!
