Words genuinely don’t do justice to how much I loved every second with this family. I won’t pretend to know a lick about parenting but I think I know enough to say confidently that raising 3 little girls probably has its challenging moments. And yet, every single second of this session was love. Instead of being upset if one of the girls ran off, completely uninterested in being in the frame – mom would shower her with tickles and kisses and soft words of encouragement – “lets try to sit here nicely together” or “you’re doing so great!”. *cue me tearing up* A regular smile turned into a full blown giggle attack when dad started singing songs to the girls, being completely silly and showing them it was okay to be silly too! I never stopped smiling. I never wanted it to end.
Maybe I’ll stop gushing but honestly probably not. It was just that special.
So now that I’m thinking about all this, I have a challenge to parents out there having a session soon, whether with me or any other photographer. I challenge you to PLAY with your kids even when more than anything you want them to sit still and listen. Even when you’re freaking out inside that nothing is going according to plan and it all seems to chaotic – LOVE on them harder. If they don’t want to sit still for a shot and take off running – I hope you run right along with them! I hope you run down the beach together, toss them up in the air and make them laugh their biggest belly laugh!
Maybe you had a long day and a lot of stress and pressure is riding on this photoshoot – but give it your best shot. I have zero expectations and I am never ever judging your family. I just want you to feel completely and genuinely free enough to let go of any “my family should look like this” nonsense and be your complete, messy, genuine selves. I’m CHEERING for you. Always. ❤️
