Most of the time the first thing a big group like this will say to me is “just to warn you, we are all crazy!”. And then we all laugh but I’m never, ever scared of big groups. Yes, even if you are self-proclaimed crazy. I come from a big, crazy family myself. And my husband – who is always there to assist me with big families – also comes from a big, crazy family. *please know that I say crazy with all the love and affection in the world!
Getting to know your big, crazy family is part of the FUN of photographing a family reunion like this! I learn everyones names, understand the family groupings and then we get to work capturing everything enjoying the beach together. These extended sessions themselves are a bit crazy, but there is joy in that wild chaos.
I call these my legacy sessions. It is all about leaving tangible, lasting memories. Your legacy. Images your kids will look at. And their kids will look at, and their kids kids. These are the memories that matter most. So if you’re crazy, be crazy! And I’ll be right there with you – laughing at your jokes, learning all about the people that matter most to you, and encouraging you to squeeeeeeze each other tight and savor in every second of being together. Because the being together part? That is such a gift.
