This was an EPIC session. With 25 people, I had my work cut out for me. Though if you can believe it, this was not the largest family/group I photographed. And truly, I love the challenge that comes with photographing large groups. My approach is to focus on nailing shots of the entire group together, and from there, we break down into smaller groups until we get all the important combinations for the client. It’s a lot of work, and we move super fast, but the end result is worth it! And the best part about working with a group like this is seeing all their family beach picture outfits.
Tips for Nailing Family beach picture outfits
Coordinating outfits for such a large group can be difficult without being too “matchy-matchy.” The trick is to coordinate and compliment. At the beach – soft pastels are your friend. Neutrals plus soft pinks and blues work like a charm every time for the entire group!
This blog post has the scoop on picking outfits for your beach session!
-
Solid colors always photograph well!
-
Ladies: look for soft, natural fabrics that drape and flow.
-
Neutrals such as soft pinks, cream, muted blues, soft greens, and white all photograph extremely well.
-
Select one patterned outfit for a single person in the family and then pull colors from that pattern to dress everyone else in solid colors to coordinate.
-
Don’t worry about shoes. Plan on being barefoot on the beach!!
