Mauna Kea Beach Sunrise, Family Photography – Big Island, Hawaii
I’ve spent most of this month working on my Pinterest strategy and it has been eye-opening. It is such a powerful platform but it got me thinking about everyone out there (myself included!!) pinning these “perfect” moments hoping to recreate them.
Here’s a secret: those Pinterest dream images you’re envying… those families didn’t plan them exactly that way. This moment here was not planned, it unfolded over the course of several minutes with some direction by me and inspiration from what the kids were naturally doing. We can’t plan for spontaneous moments and in my experience, the Pinterest-inspired shots that end up in your final gallery often feel forced and out of place.
I believe that the photos you’ll cherish the most will be the ones where you are engaged as a family and genuinely loving on each other. And then who knows! Someone may be pinning one of your magical family pictures in the future!
ps. There are only a few options for sunrise sessions in the Waikoloa area and the beach at the Mauna Kea Hotel is one of them! This is a great option if you want a big, empty, sandy beach at sunrise with hardly anyone around. What more could you ask for?!
