Together we basked in the glorious sun of a Big Island sunset—except she was in the sand looking like a goddess and I was crouched over, snapping a hundred photos per second behind my camera 😉 Nothing beats an evening spent capturing a breathtaking mama in all her glory for a Big Island beach maternity session.

Sandy beaches, swaying palm trees, and brightly-colored tropical flowers—the trio that everyone dreams of when heading to Hawaii for a vacation in paradise, am I right? Clair was no different, envisioning her maternity photos to be ethereal and overflowing with magic, vibrancy, and all the warm energy that the island has to offer. We knew JUST the spot to take her for her maternity photos on the Big Island, this beautiful beach in Waikoloa with long stretches of open sands, spectacular views of the curved coastline, and greenery lining the shores. We needed somewhere west-facing, of course, seeing as though Clair wanted a sunset session, and WOW did the island sun come out to play just for her!

A floral-drenched dream come true
Clair’s Big Island maternity session not only gave us the opportunity to capture the most incredible mama in her element, freezing this special season of her life, but also allowed us the chance to get creative with florals in a way we’ve never done before. Her lei and crown were both created by the wildly talented Nia of The Little Flower Shop, who we adore and who truly poured all of her energy into these designs for Clair. The sprawling greenery and rich shades of orange beautifully reflected the tropical beauty of the island, and embraced the magic of womanhood that Clair embodied throughout her entire session. What a gift to capture such a spectacular woman in such a special stage of her life—we will never take it for granted!
Sun-kissed, golden hour magic
Sunset was, without a doubt, the way to go for Clair’s beach session, as we wanted to take advantage of that delicious golden hour that Hawaii is so famous for. And boy did we get it! The sun shone down on Clair as she felt the waves of the ocean, creating sparkles atop the deep blue waters and painting the sky a gorgeous shade of orange. We had hubby join us at the very end for some playful splashing in the ocean (because how could you not take the opportunity to enjoy the gorgeous weather), and ended the evening with some breathtaking shots of Clair against the setting island sun.
