The Big Island and Alaska have a special connection. We get tons of visitors from our “neighbors” in the 49th state! Obviously, they like to get out of the cold in the winter, but visiting the Big Island in particular (vs. some of the other islands) seems to be universal. I think it has something to do with the laid back attitude here on the Big Island as well as our wide open spaces which are familiar to visitors from Alaska. I’m sure a mutual love of quiet is what draws so many families from Alaska to our beautiful island. What do you think?
I always make it a point to ask my clients where they’re from. I have been surprised how many are from places I have never been to! I love asking about their home, why they like living there and what drew them to visit the Big Island.
The Big Island is so unlike any of the other islands. Where on Maui you can find a stunning beach at just about every roadside turn off – on the Big Island, you have to be up for an adventure or at least a little bit of a drive to find our beaches. But when you do find them – oh LORDY the pay-off will be worth it. Forget the crowded shores of Maui or Oahu – on the Big Island you can easily find a little private corner of any beach to call your own. We’re an unknown treasure and we kind of like it that way!
But back to Alaska! I was super happy to get to photograph this family from Alaska and commemorate their first vacation with baby! It was so clear how much they loved their sweet girl and enjoyed being together.
