We are back and photographing “normally” (or, the “new normal,” I should say). As Hawaii Family Photographers, the health and safety of our own families, and the families we work with, are our top priority.
I ask that you please review the new precautions that I will be implementing as I resume photography services following COVID-19. I will be following recommendations developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Hawaii state and local county regulations.
Every member of our photography team is fully vaccinated.
For all portrait sessions, a 30% non-refundable retainer is due at booking. This retainer is non-refundable but is transferable to another date within two years of your original session date should you have to cancel your trip due to Covid.
Though we hope you won't have to cancel, if you do - you'll be able to reschedule your session within that two-year window at the same package price you paid at the time of booking. The second half of your payment will be delayed until we have a new session date confirmed.
If you decide to cancel your session completely, your 30% non-refundable retainer remains not refundable and becomes the cancellation fee. Cancellation must be made in writing or email.
Luckily, beaches are our specialty, so all sessions will continue to be held exclusively outdoors. Sessions will only occur at limited locations where we can assure plenty of space away from others. Particularly popular/busy beaches will not be available for sessions. Don't worry. We know some great secret spots. 😉 If you have your heart set on one of the busier beaches (ex. Mauna Kea, A-Bay), a sunrise session with an associate photographer will be your best option. Please also note that the County has limited the beaches available for commercial shooting permits. We are no longer able to get permits for commercial photography at Hapuna Beach on the Big Island. That location is completely unavailable unless the DLNR changes its policy.
Please also note that no sunset sessions are available on weekends due to overwhelming crowds at beach locations. Exceptions are possible if you’d like your session to take place on private property such as your rental home. Sunrise sessions on Fridays and Saturdays are still available for booking with our associate team.
I would love to hug you, fix your hair if it falls, or snuggle your little ones, but I have implemented a no-contact policy to keep any spread as minimum as possible. I know that little ones may not always understand this, so please help guide them before arriving at the session.
I will be posing and directing you verbally with no physical contact to continue practicing safe social distancing. In the past, I would use physical touch to help guide you into poses. I'll be doing that from a distance, moving forward. We'll swap handshakes and hugs for waves and shakas. You are welcome to hug, dance, embrace, and get close to anyone in your group during the session!
The State of Hawaii does not currently mandate mask-wearing outdoors. However, for all sessions, our team is happy to mask at your request. We do try to maintain 6 ft of space between ourselves and clients though in reality, this is not always 100% possible.
You, as the client, DO NOT need to wear a mask during the session though it’s always encouraged to wear it during the social time before and after the session if we cannot stand at least 6 ft apart.
We hope to shoot most sessions at a distance of at least 6 ft apart, and if there is an exception, like moving closer for a different angle of close up, I will inform you ahead of time. Please let me know during the session and before if your comfortability requires that I always stay 6 ft away. Just know that this may limit the variety of your images.
All session participants are required to disclose and reschedule the session if any member of their immediate family is sick or has had a fever or any other symptoms such as cough, runny nose, or vomiting in the last 48 hours. To reschedule, get in touch with our team as soon as possible, and we will happily do so if we have availability. There is no fee to reschedule one time.
The current policy from the state of Hawaii is that fully vaccinated individuals (15 days after your second shot or first J&J shot) may travel to Hawaii without any pre-travel testing. Unvaccinated individuals must have negative test results before traveling; otherwise will need to quarantine for 10-days. As of June 15, 2021 - all visitors who are not in the quarantine may travel between islands without any testing.

State of Hawaii Safe Travels Program
The pandemic started during my first pregnancy and life with a new baby, now a toddler. With a young, vulnerable baby at home to consider, in addition to my own health and safety, I take Covid and precautions very seriously. If you do not feel able to take these protocols seriously as well, please let me know, and I will help you find a different photographer.
I know that we are all navigating various levels of acceptable risks. I hope we can all understand and respect one another as we make our way through this strange new world.
Here's to safely and mindfully moving forward!
