I used to be afraid of photographing older kids and teens. To be fair, I was NOT my best self as a teenager and I’m actually not sure how I would have tolerated a 30 or 60-minute photoshoot with my parents. Oh, teens.
But as it turns out, teens are a blast to work with if you take the time to talk to them and get to know them. If I noticed right away that an older kid isn’t into it, I’m never upset or even flustered. This is totally normal. I get that this is probably not a way they wanted to spend a night of their vacation. So what to do? I reason with them! Seriously, I speak to them like adults and give them a little pep talk. I tell them how important these photos are for their parents and let them know I’ll keep it short and sweet and moving fast so it doesn’t feel like pure torture LOL. Usually, kids really appreciate this honesty!
So if you’re traveling to Hawaii with older kids and looking to update your family portraits, I’ve got you covered! Your kid may not love every second, but you can tell them that I” ll make it as pain-free and fun as possible!
