Hawaii Extended Family Vacation – Kona Family Photographers

I love extended family sessions. Grab the grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins – heck everyone that you freaking LOVE and let’s capture some joyful togetherness at the beach. Not every photographer enjoys large family photo sessions. This is because, well, they aren’t always the easiest! It is a lot of groupings and typically a bit of chaos. But lucky you, we LOVE them! And we’d love to be your Hawaii extended family vacation photographers on your next trip to Oahu, Maui, or the Big Island.

When we photograph large groups and extended families, we make sure to get all of the essential groupings that matter. We’ll review the session plan before we get started but rest assured we know that we’ve got a big, important job ahead of us, and it won’t just be pictures of everyone together. We love those, but just as important are pictures of grandparents with their grandbabies, all the cousins together, adult siblings, a few shots of each couple, and so much MORE! We’ll make sure to get many photos of your entire group together, then break it down until we have captured all of the smaller groupings that matter most to you and your crew.

When to book a Hawaii extended family photographer

First, the bad news: it’s always busy season in Hawaii. That being said, some months are busier than others. In the summer, May through August are basically the wild west out here for photographers. You’ll want to book those dates at least 3 three months in advance. But we often have families scheduling a year in advance, and we love to see it!

Another very busy time of year is between mid-November and early January. Many families plan a Hawaii visit around Thanksgiving and Christmas. The thing to remember about the holidays is that we (your trusty Hawaii photo team!) also love to be with our own families during the holidays. I make sure my team has plenty of time off around these days so that they can be with their family. This means availability is even tighter! For those dates, 4-6 months in advance is my strong recommendation.
