Choosing the Perfect Time for Oahu Family Photos

Golden Hour: The Magic Light

1. Morning Magic: Opting for a sunrise session captures the stunning soft light and keeps the little ones happy and cool, especially during the summer. In the summer, you can expect sessions to start around 6 am. In winter, when the days are shorter, sunrise sessions typically start around 7 am. We schedule our East side sessions to start *at* sunrise for the most ideal lighting. A sunrise start is ideal to capture the fresh morning vibe before the sun gets too harsh.
2. Evening Glow: For those who aren’t morning people, how about capturing the serene beauty of the sunset? The hour just before sunset, known as the Golden Hour, offers a dream-like quality perfect for family photos. Because of the Koolau Mountains, we push our “sunset” session start times up a bit in order to get that glowy sunshine before the sun dips back behind the mountains. But don’t worry, our team of Oahu family photographers will let you know the best time for photos so all you have to do is show up ready to have fun!
